“STEAMBOAT CHALLENGE” NRA ACTION PISTOL REGIONAL AND WYOMING STATE CHAMPIONSHIP

Event was conducted at the

Otto Road Shooting Range in Cheyenne, Wyoming on

August 20 and 21, 2022

Steamboat Competitors,

Another Steamboat Match is in the books and I’m looking forward to hosting the match again next year. I am busy this week doing post match paperwork and paying the bills. I’ll be submitting a Distinguished Report to NRA and it appears there are some National Records set in the Barricade (M) and Speedload Challenge events. I will follow up this e-mail with that information when its complete.

For your planning — next years Steamboat match will be AUGUST 18, 19, and 20, 2023 at the Otto Road Shooting Range. When the matches are posted on PRACTISCORE early next year I recommend signing up as soon as possible to avoid being “waitlisted”. We are limited to about 50-60 competitors.

The Rimfire/Centerfire Aggregate and Centerfire Aggregate Match will be on Friday August 18. The Regional Match will be Saturday Aug 19 and the State Match will be Sunday Aug 20. I plan on having another “Traditional Values” Production Revolver category for the State Match. And of course the notorious “Wheel of Misfortune” to determine two of the four events for the Sunday State match.

Hope you all had a good time in ‘Ol Cheyenne and we hope to see you again next August!

Best Regards,

Andy Rayland

"state & regional wins

This month the family joined me for back-to-back competitions in Wyoming. My second year shooting these competitions, the Steamboat Challenge Regional and Wyoming State Championships are some of my favorite matches. This staff of volunteers runs flawless events and this, combined with the challenging course of fire makes it a sellout double match weekend. With competitors attending from coast to coast the matches brought in members of the US Army Marksmanship Unit, Marine Corps Reserve Team, ICE, Homeland Security, and Border Patrol Shooting Teams.

The conditions in Wyoming are much different than other Action Pistol events around the country. Wind can be a major factor along with elevation, over 6000 feet above sea level. With a big sky backdrop, elevation, and breezy conditions, everyone’s scores were a bit lower than their average, mine included but it’s a challenge that just makes us better as shooters.

I ended up bringing home women’s titles in the regional, state match, and aggregate. I also placed first military veteran at the Steamboat Challenge and my scores placed 5th & 6th place in the Open Division.

#sponsorgratitude Finished the first day of a double match weekend in Wyoming for the Steamboat Challenge Regional. Grateful to take these home and looking forward to tomorrow. Thank you to the wonderful staff for their western hospitality. I love Wyoming! family time

Perhaps the best part of the trip was sharing it as a family. My husband competed in the matches and took Top Expert in the State Championships. My oldest daughter (14) tried her hand at photography and captured some good photos of the competitors. I hope she learns to shoot a camera as well as she shoots a rifle. After watching teenage members of the staff helping out on the range, my 9-year-old, asked if she could volunteer too. We dropped her off at the Barricade range to help pull and set up targets. Talk about a proud mom moment!

After the match, we hit the road to tour the state."
