NRA ACTION PISTOL AT OTTO ROAD SHOOTING RANGE

NRA Action Pistol is an action shooting sport best described as "Precision Pistol at Speed".  All shooting is done under time pressure with a prescribed number of shots at a prescribed distance and number of targets.  All shooting is done drawing from the holster --  starting position is hands above shoulder level with the exception of Barricade events where starting position is hands resting flat on the Barricade.

NRA Action Pistol places an emphasis on accuracy under time pressure.    The NRA AP-1 "Tombstone" target is 36 inches tall by 18 inches wide.  In the middle is a 4 inch diameter black spot called the X-ring.  Hits there count 10 points and an "X".  Outside the X-Spot is an 8 inch diameter 10 ring.  Shots landing there are valued at 10 points.  Outside the 10 ring is a 12 inch diameter 8 ring.  Shots landing there are valued at 8 points.  Any shot landing outside the 8 ring is valued at 5 points.

The 8 inch diameter plates are scored 10 points and an "X"   The "X" count for plates and AP-1 targets is used as a tiebreaker in the standings if the numerical aggregate scores are identical.

NRA Action Pistol is a great way to "cross train" and improve shooting skills with other action pistol sports.  Because of the emphasis on fundamentals of pistol shooting and accuracy under time pressure, participants in this game will eventually show improvement in Defensive Pistol, Bowling Pins, Steel Challenge etc.

The most popular shooting division is Production.  No specialized equipment needed --just a basic service pistol and holster and you shoot among other Production Shooters.  Another is .22 Rimfire  -- a great way to introduce a new or junior shooter to Action Pistol shooting.  Our matches are open to everyone—from novice to expert-- come on out join the fun and learn new skills!

Match fee is $10.00 for first gun, $5.00 for second gun.  Juniors shoot FREE.
